Where professional writing was at one time reserved for the lucky few who could “make it” as novelists and journalists, web blogging has become a new platform for many other talented writers. Because blogging is a fairly new genre of professional writing, many are still working to perfect their understanding of this new platform. Blogging is a unique writing environment that requires a special understanding of the internet audience. The web reader is unlike the novel reader or Sunday morning paper enthusiast. For this reason, bloggers must cater to a completely different form of reader and environment. With thousands upon thousands of blogs filling the web, many blogger still partake in common mistakes that make their blog less successful. Avoid these three common blogging mistakes to create an interesting and alluring blog.

Watch the video below to learn how to start your own blog successfully..:

Writing in the Wrong Niche

Finding an appropriate niche for your blog is one of the most challenging and (of course) important aspects of blogging. The niche that your blog falls into defines your blog’s focus, guides your writing and ideas, and creates your audience. It is essential that you find a niche area of interest for your blog that is both inspiring and engaging for you. Find something that you are passionate about. This topic must be something that is somewhat unique to the web environment or at least looked at from a unique perspective.

Your niche should be specific and narrow, but not limiting. As you can see, this is a difficult process. It can seem like a very daunting task to find a subject that is inspiring, unique, and specific without being too specific. Obviously, finding the right blogging niche requires a lot of research and forethought. Explore the different areas that interest you, research other blogs and websites on the internet, and find something that you feel passionate about. Writing within a niche that is too narrow or just doesn’t interest you as much as you thought it did is a surefire way to lose momentum with your blogging.
Forgetting About Appearances

As writers, many of us overlook the importance of looks when we are writing. In the world of the web looks are nearly everything. Many bloggers think that quality content and an interesting niche will enable readers to overlook poor web design or ugly posts. Unfortunately for some, this just isn’t the case. While content is absolutely paramount in blogging, the design or your blog is half the story. Internet readers expect websites that are full of interesting, unique content and beautiful design. Because internet goers move so quickly through sites, it is essential that the web design catch their eye to keep them there. Make your blog attractive and simple to look at.

Also, format your individual posts so that they are easy to read. Break up text, use bullet points and numbers, and write engaging headers. Making a site easy to navigate and pleasing to look at is key to becoming a successful blogger.
Inconsistency

Another aspect of successful blogging that is commonly overlooked is consistency. Readers bookmark blogs that they consider worth returning too. However, if a blog is not updated regularly or in a consistent manner it is unlikely that they will continue to return to your blog. Stick to a consistent routine for updates to your blog. Decide if you will be adding new material once a week, twice a week, once a month, or whatever it is and let your readers know when to expect something new. This way you can sustain returning readership (which is essential to successful and profitable blogging).

It is also important to remain consistent with your voice and content as a blogger. This is not to say that you have to write the same thing in the same way over and over again. However, your readers should have an idea about what to expect from you. Maintaining a consistent and reliable voice and stance is important.
